The most hyped candidate for the presidency elections is Ms. Pratibha Patil, the current governer of Rajasthan who has suddenly popped into the limelight thanks to Congress aka Sonia Gandhi.
Pratibha Patil suddenly has a lot of support in the form of Shiv Sena, Congress, etc etc.
It's great that we might finally have a woman president. But is it fair to compromise on the quality of the candidate just for the sake of uplifting the status of women (which may I add, I think is very superficial). A president is more like a ambassador of India to other countries. As a part of his/her job the president needs to visit various countries on official purposes. At such global events, she will be India's representative to the world. Can we allow a woman who is so media shy to actually represent India at a global platform. Dr. APJ Kalam was a class apart. A perfect ambassador to the world. I'm sure Ms. Pratibha Patil must be very intelligent, but its high time she displayed it to the public too!

I agree. In fact I think the post of president should be completely scrapped. What has even abdul Kalam done for the country in his tenure? considering the amount of money that is spent on them, there is no justification of the ROI of these presidents
